Our parish Scout group (24th North Leeds) provides enjoyable and enriching activities for young people, helping them in their personal development and empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
We are part of the UK national Scout Association and the North Leeds Scout District as well as being associated with the Parish of St John Vianney.
Our group sections are as follows:
- Scouts: age 10.5 to 14, meet on Thursdays during term time, from 7.30pm to 9pm, either in the Queen’s Hall (at Immaculate Heart Church) or outdoors when possible
- Cubs: age 8 to 10.5, meet on Tuesdays during term time from 6.45 to 8 pm, either in the Hall or outdoors when possible
- Beavers: age 6 to 8, meet on Thursdays during term time, from 6.15 to 7.15 pm, in the Hall or often outdoors.
We currently have about 18 young people in the Scout section, 30 in the Cub section and 20 in the Beaver section. We are an open group for boys and girls, and our members are not all from the parish. We maintain a waiting list for all three sections. We endeavour to cater for children with disabilities but if your son or daughter has any disabilities or special needs please ensure that you discuss their needs with the leaders before accepting a place, so that we can help them got the most out of their scouting experience.
Young people aged 14-18 can continue within the Scouting movement by joining one of several Explorer Scout Units in the North Leeds District.
The group is a charity overseen by a Board of Trustees and a Group Lead Volunteer. Each section is led by a Lead Volunteer along with a team of volunteers (formerly all were known as leaders).
We are looking for new volunteers in all three sections to support our existing leader teams. Full training will be provided, and you do not need to have been involved with Scouting before. Some of our Explorers also help with the younger sections as Young Leaders, and young people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme also volunteer as Young Leaders.
Membership cost for beavers, cubs and scouts is £12 per month.
